  • Q/A Policy

  • INNOVIM Defense Services (IDS) is constantly measuring performance to improve customer satisfaction. Our quality management approach is tailored to meet contract requirements, develop meaningful and actionable metrics and perform analysis on trends in performance data that could lead to identification of risks adversely impacting Seaport-e.

With each task, INNOVIM Defense Services (IDS) develops TPMs, which are performance measurements and management evaluations that are used to continuously monitor the scope of our support services and the organization’s ability to perform within prescribed acceptable technical, cost, schedule and management limits. To ensure a positive trend of continuous improvement, INNOVIM Defense Services (IDS) establishes quality objectives, and measures performance trends using management reviews, internal audits, analysis of data, and through our corrective and preventive action processes.

For example, INNOVIM Defense Services (IDS) developed a QASP to meet specific requirements of our NOAA customer on the EMS contract. We continuously look for ways to improve the way we do business internally, as well as with our Government customers as a means to that end. Our Quality Management System incorporates comprehensive, repeatable processes that cover all aspects of our business, internal and external, and integrates all required resources including personnel, infrastructure, associated costs and customer requirements. The QMS is invaluable in identifying potential areas of improvement and provides the mechanism for making adjustments when required.

    OPSCON/Requirements/Specifications Development & Management
    image

Proper requirements management involves communication between the project team members and stakeholders, and rapid adjustment to requirements changes when necessary throughout the course of the project. INNOVIM Defense Services (IDS) offers comprehensive "cradle to grave" management/documentation of all requirements as they evolve on a program. The IDS process begins with understanding the Customers/Users Needs as documented in our OPSCON process by analyzing the elicitation of the objectives and constraints of the customer's organization. From the OPSCON, key requirements are developed to define the system and boundaries are defined through Interface Control Documents (ICDs). Traceability of customer requirements is established and utilized throughout the project's lifecycle to report back satisfactory fulfillment of customer and stakeholder interests, in terms of compliance, completeness, coverage and consistency. The documentation will be critical in preventing scope creep or unnecessary changes to protect the customer against significant cost impacts or schedule slips.

    ×
    Testing and Evaluation (T&E)
    image

INNOVIM Defense Services (IDS) continues its requirement traceability process throughout the Testing & Evaluation to ensure the quality of the software product and its conformance to the customer requirements. IDS develops test documentation (Procedures, use cases, etc.) that capture the full range of measureable requirements to provide a comprehensive performance analysis once the process is completed. IDS focuses on three sets of factors -- functionality, engineering, and adaptability:

    image

INNOVIM Defense Services (IDS) employees have vast experience in error detection, throughput, bandwidth utilization and intrusion detection. We use network statistics to produce reports indicating potential bottlenecks and allow for upgrading or replacing network devices before issues or failures develop. New technologies are carefully evaluated and implemented in accordance with the customer's requirements; documentation is updated to reflect implementation. New network requirements are analyzed against the existing network topology to see if the current configuration can meet the requirements, or if a topology change is needed. Our network engineers design systems to allow controlled network traffic, or as complex as implementing new network connections between customers' organizations and their collaboration partners. Data confidentiality, integrity, and availability are a prime factor in continuing to support the existing network and implementing future network growth. Best practices are used to support high-performance network requirements, responsive website farms. Multi-path routing and networking are implemented to reach availability, uptime and response time goals -- leading to a "no single point of failure" solution.

    Secure Mobile Computing
    image

One of the newest forefronts of the secure computing environment is the ever increasing use of Mobile computing devices. These devices can store large amounts of data, are highly portable and are frequently unprotected. They are easy to steal or lose, and unless precautions are taken, an unauthorized person can gain access to the information stored on them or accessed through them. Even if not stolen or lost, intruders can sometimes gain all the access they want if the device is left alone and unprotected, if data is "sniffed out of the air" during wireless communications, or if malware is installed. The results can include crippled devices, personal data loss, disclosure of non-public University data, and disciplinary actions for the device owner. INNOVIM Defense Services (IDS) works with the customer to protect Mobile computing devices and the data that might be stored on them, and their potential to provide access to other services that store or display non-public data. This access may be enabled because the mobile device contains passwords or security certificates that identify the device or its user to the email system, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), or other applications. INNOVIM Defense Services (IDS) also works with its parent company (INNOVIM), on Android development for Mobile devices to support classified data and voice applications. This is an emerging market and critical to keep pace with the information sharing world that moves at a rapid pace.

    Challenge
Communications among the worldwide network of NASA ground system components and their operating satellites are the lifeblood of space missions supporting science, commerce, and national defense. The ground system and associated network elements supporting these missions are required to support spacecraft and ground communications systems that have been in operation for the last 25 years and will be expected to support anticipated new systems for the next 25 years. NASA has undertaken the ambitious Space Network Ground System Sustainment (SGSS) project to transform the collection of diverse communication systems currently in use by the missions into a single integrated IP-based network. INNOVIM Defense Services (IDS) accepted the challenge to support the prime SGSS contractor, GDC4S, in the design, development, integration and transition of the main ground communications hub for the Space Network. Key contributing factors to the challenge include the diverse set of orbiting platforms, communications schemes, and legacy software; new security requirements; and a limited budget. And INNOVIM Defense Services (IDS) was called in to support the prime contractor six months after work had been initiated on a very aggressive schedule.

Check out INNOVIM Defense Services (IDS) Solution or the benefits to this project.

      image

    Solution
INNOVIM Defense Services (IDS) rose to the challenge by mobilizing a small team of engineers with a combined skill set normally delivered by a much larger team. We strategically deployed a lead systems engineer at the central prime-customer location, and maintained the rest of the team close to NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. This versatile team rapidly took ownership of the service technologies and configuration processes, and adapted to the customer's Rational Unified Process development approach. The NASA Integrated Systems Network (NISN) supports ground communications between the ground segment and customers (Mission Operations Centers – MOCs). Most space communications between operating satellites (customer platforms) and the ground segment are facilitated by NASA's Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System – TDRSS. We added a process guru/system architect to help knock down knowledge barriers and provide integration across disciplines such as systems analysis, system development methodology, information assurance, network standards, and enterprise architecture. Within six months, we delivered 500 pages of interface definition for the data interchange between the customer facilities, via the User Services Gateway, the primary processing element of SGSS, and the user platforms. We are regularly receiving kudos from our customers for responsiveness, timeliness and quality.

Check out the Benefits to this solution, or go back and review the Challenge.

      image

    Benefits
The unique skill mix of the team of INNOVIM Defense Services (IDS) engineers expedited the integration of the data systems of missions utilizing the standards prescribed by the Consultative Committee on Space Data Systems (CCSDS) and legacy missions that often only partially comply with this standard. They also facilitated inclusion of missions embracing the Space Link Extension (SLE) standards and laid the foundation for transitioning the space network to an all-IP network infrastructure. Our geographical diversity allows the small INNOVIM Defense Services (IDS) team to maintain regular customer communication at several tiers of the prime and agency organizations that provides the critical, continuous awareness of the state of the program necessary on this fast-moving contract. IDS's philosophy of deploying a small, highly-skilled, geographically-distributed team provided the best cost/performance value to our prime and NASA in support of SGSS.

Cookies cannot be used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. Cookies are uniquely assigned to you, and can only be read by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you.

One of the primary purposes of cookies is to provide a convenience feature to save you time. The purpose of a cookie is to tell the Web server that you have returned to a specific page. You have the ability to accept or decline cookies. Most Web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. If you choose to decline cookies, you may not be able to fully experience the interactive features of the IDS services or Web sites you visit.
